SOLARIS is a collaborative citizen science initiative that studies how the human body responds to the total solar eclipse on 12 August. The data collected will enable researchers to analyse the relationship between this phenomenon, emotions and the body's physiological responses.

This initiative of the Department of Research and Universities has been developed jointly with the Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) and the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC) with a clear goal: to turn one of the most extraordinary natural phenomena of the century into a unique opportunity to advance science through citizen participation.

For the first time, a large group of participants will help researchers study how a total solar eclipse affects the human body. The data collected will make it possible to analyse the relationship between this extraordinary phenomenon, emotions and different physiological responses, generating unprecedented scientific knowledge.

Taking part is easy. All you need is a smartwatch capable of recording your heart rate and the SOLARIS app on your mobile phone.
