The Generalitat promotes a large atlas of educational activities to prepare Catalonia for the total solar eclipse of August 12
12/06/2026
The website eclipsicatalunya.cat already lists more than a hundred scientific, cultural and educational activities organized throughout the territory. The atlas of activities allows the visualization and visibility of initiatives promoted by institutions, entities and astronomical groups throughout Catalonia. The Department complements this initiative with a dissemination campaign on social networks about the observation points, the scheduled activities and the safe observation measures.
The Department of Research and Universities is promoting a large atlas of educational activities around the total solar eclipse of August 12, 2026, with the aim of converting this exceptional astronomical phenomenon into a collective opportunity to bring science closer to citizens and mobilize the territory.
Through the website eclipsicatalunya.cat, the Government has created a space that collects and makes visible all the activities related to the eclipse organized by public institutions, social entities, cultural facilities, educational centers and astronomical groups. This agenda has become a true map of the scientific dissemination of the eclipse in Catalonia, with more than a hundred proposals distributed throughout the territory.
The objective is twofold: to facilitate citizens’ access to quality activities about the eclipse and, at the same time, to give visibility to the network of agents who are working to disseminate this unique event, for which today, June 12, there are exactly two months left. The initiative contributes to building a shared, diverse and decentralized programming that reflects the country’s capacity to generate knowledge and scientific culture from multiple areas.
During the month of May, the agenda incorporated more than thirty activities, and in the coming months it will continue to grow with new proposals that will expand the informative, scientific and cultural offer linked to the eclipse. This set of initiatives configures a preparation itinerary that allows citizens to progressively approach the phenomenon, understand its scientific dimension and know the conditions to observe it safely before the event on August 12, 2026.
The atlas includes very diverse activities, such as scientific conferences, book presentations, informative sessions, specialized workshops, astronomical observations, immersive experiences and awareness-raising initiatives aimed at bringing scientific knowledge closer to the general public. This plurality of formats allows reaching audiences of all ages and interests.
A dissemination network built from the territory
The activities will take place from November 2025 to August 2026 and will constitute one of the most extensive scientific dissemination initiatives promoted around an astronomical phenomenon in Catalonia. The programming reinforces equitable access to knowledge and guarantees the presence of activities in different parts of the country.
This collective effort is part of the Government’s desire to prepare citizens for an exceptional phenomenon that has not occurred in Catalonia for more than a century. For this reason, the agenda combines scientific dissemination content with practical information on the safe observation of the eclipse and its understanding.
