The municipality of El Catllar is hosting a special workshop dedicated to solar observation and preparation for the great solar eclipse that will take place on August 12, 2026. During this activity, participants will learn how to observe the Sun safely, understand what an eclipse is, and discover the tools and techniques needed to fully enjoy this unique astronomical event.
Solar Observation and Eclipse Preparation Workshop
Led by NASA-recognized astrophotographer and science communicator Carlos Uriarte
This workshop offers a unique opportunity to discover the Sun and prepare to safely experience the great total solar eclipse on August 12, 2026. The activity will be led by Carlos Uriarte, a NASA-recognized astrophotographer and science communicator with extensive experience in public outreach and educational astronomy activities.

- Understanding the Sun and its main characteristics
- What a solar eclipse is and why it occurs
- Types of eclipses and phases of a total eclipse
- How to safely observe the Sun
- Solar observation equipment: glasses, certified filters and telescopes
- Introduction to solar and eclipse photography
- Practical preparation for eclipse day
- Solar observation session (weather permitting)
