Solar eclipses, an experience to live
URV Extended Campus in Amposta, Amposta City Council and Terres de l'Ebre Museum.
June 5, 2026 I 19:00 h
This year, Catalonia will experience the only total solar eclipse observable from our territory. The last one was in 1905 (which led to the creation of the Ebro Astronomical Observatory). The next total solar eclipse that will be visible from Catalan territory will not be until November 17, 2180. This is therefore an opportunity for the Catalan population to observe this phenomenon from their own territory. It is a phenomenon of very short duration (a minute and a half in the most spectacular phase), so you must be prepared to observe it and to understand its uniqueness and importance.
On August 12th, the first total solar eclipse visible on the peninsula in over a century will take place.
In the conference to be held on June 5th at the Terres de l’Ebre Museum in Amposta, advice will be given on the ideal place to see it and guidelines will be offered for safe observation without danger to the eyes.
By Professor Urbano Lorenzo, Professor of Methodology of Behavioral Sciences at the URV.
This event is part of the different initiatives carried out by the URV’s Extended Campus around the total solar eclipse that will occur in our regions on August 12th, 2026.
